Viku can be written using the above native script or in plain Roman letters.

Viku has 10 simple phonemes. There are seven consonants and three vowels.

The three vowels are:

a as in father /a/
i as in machine /i/
u as in lunar /u/

The seven consonants are:

k as in skin /k/
l as in love /l/
n as in night /n/
p as in spin /p/
s as in sun /s/
t as in stick /t/
v as in victory /v/

The stress in a polysyllabic word is always at the penultimate syllable (the second-to-the-last syllable).

Careful speakers will enunciate the vowels distinctly as /a/, /i/, and /u/ in both stressed and unstressed positions. Some lax speakers may use /@/ (as in about), /I/ (as in bit), and /U/ (as in put) in unstressed positions, but keep /a/, /i/, and /u/ in stressed positions. Speakers with difficulty with /v/ may pronounce it as /w/ (as in water). Speakers with difficulty with /l/ may pronounce it as /r/.
